Loudoun Adult Detention Releases
The Loudoun County Adult Detention Center is the county’s primary local jail. It holds people before trial, people serving local sentences, and some state-sentenced prisoners awaiting delivery to the Virginia Department of Corrections. LCSO says people with local terms of twelve months or less serve there. Some prisoners can remain at the jail for as long as three years before VADOC delivery, including when an appeal stays that move. Thus, a felony sentence and a continued Loudoun placement can exist at the same time.
A true community release can occur on bond, recognizance, time served, sentence completion, or another court-authorized basis. A transfer is different. The person may go to VADOC, another jail, a hospital, ICE, or another authority. The LCSO movement record should show the event and destination. A court docket explains the legal basis but may not show the moment the jail door opened. Both records have value.
Leaving the Loudoun roster proves only that the person is no longer shown at this jail. Confirm the destination before describing a community release.
Confirm a Loudoun Jail Release
For a recent event, start with Virginia Jail VINE and the facility telephone. VINE covers participating local and regional jails and can report release or transfer events. It is a timely status and notification service, not a certified discharge record. Read the event label carefully. A transfer alert means custody continued elsewhere.
Use this sequence to reconcile the status:
- Search the person in Virginia Jail VINE and match the name and facility.
- Call 703-777-0405 for prompt clarification about whether the person remains at the Adult Detention Center.
- Request the LCSO release or movement transaction, including actual date, time, reason, and destination.
- Check Loudoun General District Court and Circuit Court records for the order, disposition, bond, sentence, or appeal.
- If LCSO transferred the person, continue with the named receiving agency. Use the VADOC locator for state custody.
The full named-person process and field inventory also appear on the Loudoun County released inmate search. No official LCSO rolling 24-hour or 72-hour public release feed was verified in the research. A live roster must not be substituted for a historical release list.
Loudoun Release Record Fields
A focused request is more useful than a broad demand for all jail material. Identify the person with a full name, aliases, date of birth if known, and booking number if known. Give the booking or admission date when possible. Then name the precise transaction fields needed. This helps Records Services locate the right booking and limits unrelated or protected material.
| Field | What it establishes |
|---|---|
| Booking number and admission | The specific Loudoun incarceration episode |
| Actual release date and time | When LCSO ended that custody event |
| Release reason or code | Bond, court order, sentence event, or other basis |
| Destination or receiving agency | Community return versus continued custody |
| Charges, court, and bond | The booking’s legal context |
| Booking photograph | The intake image tied to that booking, if releasable |
Ask LCSO to identify any withheld field and cite the legal basis. “Actual release date and time” is not the same as a scheduled hearing or projected date. Likewise, “released by LCSO” does not always mean released to the community.
Loudoun Jail Records Contact
LCSO Records Services is the durable-record channel. The separate Sheriff’s GovQA portal accepts requests online. Virginia FOIA generally gives an agency five working days to respond through one of the options allowed by law; that period is not a promise that every record will be produced within five days. Search, review, and copy costs may apply. Asking for electronic delivery and an estimate keeps the request clear.

Records Services is at 803 Sycolin Road, Leesburg, VA 20175, with a mailing address of P.O. Box 7200, Leesburg, VA 20177. Its records telephone is 703-777-0629, and posted service hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Operational questions belong with the jail; document requests belong with the records custodian.
Loudoun Transfers to VADOC
A state sentence does not guarantee an immediate move from Loudoun. The Sheriff’s facility material expressly describes delayed delivery, including a stay during appeal. Once VADOC accepts the person, search the Inmate & Supervisee Locator by seven-digit DOC ID or by name. A state-facility location shows continued incarceration. A district-office result may show community supervision after release from secure state custody.
The two systems answer different questions. LCSO documents departure from the county jail. VADOC documents state custody or supervision. A delay between the local movement and the statewide record can occur, so keep the LCSO transaction and compare identifiers. If the person never entered VADOC authority, a missing state result says little about the Loudoun release.
- Transfer
- Movement from one custodian to another without community release.
- Discharge
- Completion of the custodial or supervision term identified by the responsible agency.
- Detainer
- A request or legal basis for another authority to take custody when the current hold ends.
- Remand
- A court order returning a person to custody.
After Loudoun Adult Release
Loudoun publishes a rare after-release rule for scanned personal mail. The Sheriff’s mail page says a former inmate has thirty days after release to submit an online request for digital copies of personal mail that had been scanned for tablet access. LCSO then provides notice when copies are ready for pickup. That rule concerns scanned mail only. It should not be expanded into a claim about every form of stored property.
Transportation also requires current checking. Loudoun Transit Route 56 has a named Adult Detention Center stop and connects the complex with points in central Leesburg. Schedules can change. Neither the research nor the official jail page identified a fixed public release door, waiting zone, or routine release hour. Call the facility before arranging a pickup and consult the current Route 56 timetable rather than relying on an old time.
State-prison rules do not supply missing local details. VADOC’s statement that facility discharge or parole release occurs by 11:59 p.m., weather permitting, applies to VADOC institutions, not to this county jail. Note: A transport plan should be based on current LCSO and transit instructions, not a statewide prison timetable.
Loudoun Holds and Supervision
A magistrate’s bond decision is not the jail’s physical release timestamp. The Magistrate’s Office, Community Custody Program, and Adult Detention Center share a complex, yet their functions and records remain separate. Pretrial supervised release can allow a defendant to live in the community under bond conditions while the case remains pending. It is not parole and does not prove a conviction.
An outside hold can also change the path. LCSO discussed an ICE agreement in a June 2025 release, but said it was not operational on that date. The material supports the general point that an immigration handoff may follow the end of a local criminal hold. It does not establish the agreement’s present status. Request the movement destination and confirm with the receiving authority rather than relying on the old announcement.
If a court imposed local probation, Loudoun Community Corrections may hold the supervision record. State probation or parole is supervised through VADOC Community Corrections. The criminal case, signed conditions, and responsible office are stronger than a guess based on the jail roster. Note: Release, transfer, bond supervision, probation, and parole are separate events even when they occur close together.
Adult Detention Center Role
The Adult Detention Center serves a mixed local population rather than functioning as a VADOC prison. Pretrial detainees have not yet reached a final case outcome. Locally sentenced people may serve their terms there. Others wait for transfer, appeal, medical movement, or action by another authority. That mix is why one generic locator cannot resolve every departure.
Virginia Jail VINE and the jail phone are best for an immediate check. The LCSO release or movement record is best for the local physical transaction. The court record explains the legal order, while the VADOC, BOP, or ICE system becomes relevant only when that agency actually takes custody. Matching the source to the custodian gives the clearest answer and avoids treating mere absence as proof.
LCSO did not publish a verified rolling release archive or a complete mugshot gallery when the research was checked. Its official mobile-app description also did not promise either feature. For an older event, request the existing booking and release record instead of trying to rebuild history from a live roster. Virginia law treats specified nonjuvenile arrest facts and routine initial-intake photographs as public on request, subject to the limits in Code § 2.2-3706. A denial should name the controlling provision and say whether any part can be separated and released.
